You won't find a single traffic light on the island. And that's how the people of Lanai like it. Only nine miles from Maui yet a world away, Lanai can feel like two places. The first is found in the two luxurious resorts where visitors can indulge in world-class amenities and championship-level golf. The other is found bouncing along the island's rugged back-roads in a 4-wheel drive. From the stunning views atop the pine-lined Munro Trail to watching the acrobatic Spinner dolphins from the Hulopoe Bay Tidal Pools, Lanai is a special place where you'll find serenity, adventure, and intimacy. Lanai offers a wide range of activities such as and Off-road up Munro Trail along the volcanic ridge of Lanaihale for spectacular views. Or you can experience the moonlike rock formations of Keahiakawelo or the "Garden of the Gods." See the hulking World War II era ship still trapped on Shipwreck Beach. Manele Bay offers a great beach to relax without the crowds and many stroll up to the Manele Bay Lodge for a refreshing beverage. If you're with Trilogy Sailing Excursions, then they provide all the beach gear needed and the option to have an afternoon van tour. This will lead you to Lanai City and the Lodge at Koele. Lanai City is cooler than the beaches due to its elevation. The weather is relatively dry for a Hawaiian island, receiving only about 37 inches of rainfall per year. There is no public transportation on Lanai so it's best to rent a car or 4-wheel drive. Make reservations in advance. Otherwise, there are limited shuttles and taxi services available.
